Frequently Asked Questions View All FAQs
Bass Traps are an acoustical treatment that reduces sound issues in the corners of rooms where walls meet, and sound is captured. They are specifically designed to address low frequency standing wave issues, which can create unpleasant or distorted sounds. (Standing waves are defined as the interference of two identical waves, traveling in opposite directions).
By installing Bass Traps, standing waves are reduced, and excessive room reverberation is also reduced. Bass traps are mostly commonly used in recording studios, home theaters, podcast studios, and rooms where loud music and low-end bass sounds exist.
- For 4 traps: mount them high in your room corners, where the wall meets the ceiling.
- For 8 traps: mount them floor to ceiling, in your corners.
If your issue still persists, additional traps can be added where the ceiling meets the wall horizontally opposite the bass source, until you achieve your desired results.
Yes, it is! Our high density (6 PCF) Acoustic Fiberglass board provides superior sound absorption when compared to other materials. For our 1″ and 2″ thick panels, the performance of our fiberglass is better than same thickness of foam, Mineral wool, or Owens Corning 703. Also, our core material is quite rigid, so a wooden frame is not required.
No. Acoustics America acoustic panels and ceiling clouds are manufactured using a frameless design. We intentionally design our acoustic products without a wood frame because frameless delivers better performance and installation advantages over wood-framed acoustic panels.
Benefits of frameless acoustic panels and ceiling clouds include:
- Lighter Weight: Frameless acoustic panels are easier to ship, handle, and install than wood‑framed alternatives.
- Improved Sound Absorption: Our panels absorb sound on the edges too, giving more absorption area per panel. Wooden framed panels do not.
- Higher Acoustic Performance: Our high-density fiberglass core offers the ultimate amount of sound absorption per inch.
- Additional Rear-side Absorption: Unlike wood-backed panels, when installed using stand‑off mounts, furring strips, or suspended methods, our frameless acoustic panels absorb sound from both the front and back.
- Environmentally Responsible Design: Our frameless construction eliminates the need for wood framing, reducing material usage and supporting a more sustainable acoustic solution.
Our products are safe and effective and have been tested by an independent lab. All our panels and clouds carry a Class A fire rating which is the highest rating possible under the ASTM E84, a test used by code officials and regulatory agencies in the acceptance of interior finish materials.
Yes. All acoustic panels include standard impaling clips free of charge. Adhesive is required (sold separately) and installation is explained in our installation instructions.
Drywall anchors and screws (or other hardware appropriate for your wall surface) are also needed to mount your standard impaling clips (available from any hardware store). IMPORTANT: Standard and angled impaling clips are for wall mounting only and are not to be used for ceiling direct-mount applications or for any surface that is beyond perpendicular to the floor.
Our acoustic panel kits ship with angled impaling clips. Adhesive is not required for this wall mount option.
Optional Hardware:Â Rotofast Snap-on anchors are available as an alternative installation option at product selection. They do not require adhesive.
If you choose Rotofast Snap-on anchors at product selection, standard impaling clips will not be included with your order.
Orders that include Rotofast snap-on anchors will ship with the exact quantity required for installation. We recommend purchasing additional anchors in advance if there is any uncertainty or if you would like backup pieces.
Absolutely. We offer fabric samples for all of our acoustic fabric lines. Some fabric lines are free of charge, with a nominal shipping and handling fee, while others have a small per-sample cost plus nominal shipping and handling fee.

All the acoustic panels worked beyond expectations, not only the traps. Low frequencies very much under control.
Product performs well for small form design which is my room limitations issue not Acoustics Americas. To solve this problem I would have to use larger traps which again were not practical in my room. Happy with results.
I’m sure they’re fine quality, just the wrong size.
Can’t believe what a difference they have made in my space. Thank you!
